Bio & Resume

Barbara H Sant
July 1935-Nov 2005

My mom passed away several years ago at the age of 70. We all miss her presence but I hope with this updated page she can live on though her art. She left me with over 250 pieces of finished work plus untold numbers of sketches, doodles and notes that I have been somewhat overwhelmed with for these past years.

On this page I will try to photograph, trim and upload all of this. Some of it I would like to sell if possible because I simply don't have room for it all. She was quite adamant before she died that I should never, under any circumstances, give any of it away, however I may reduce some of her asking prices simply because I don't have to depend on it to pay my bills as she did.

Some of the art is in a finished, framed state, others are simply drawings or paintings that I have kept laying flat, carefully stacked in an upstairs bedroom. On the main page I will try to indicate the type of medium, it's framed state and a price I either find on the back, or think is fair for what she wanted for it. If you are interested in a particular work, contact me at martan@cstone.net. The more expensive pieces I may be able to deliver personally, depending on size.

The following is Mom's resume as it existed on her original page:

ARTISTS' STATEMENT

The sun as it filters through trees or slates in a blind, patterned curtains casting shadows onto a surface; a window pane creating a geometric pattern are all aspects of how I approach a drawing or painting. I am most interested in pattern and shape created by light and shadow and how color changes. Influences in my development as an artist have come from the study of Cezanne's compositions, the shapes and color of Matisse and the attention to pattern and nuance from Bonnard and Vuillard. . When arranging the flowers, fruit or vegetables for still life, or selecting aspects in nature that spark that intense interest in capturing light as it is related to me, it is important to "see" these as they relate to how the sun (light)helps to create a composition and thereby an exciting journey into the process of translation into a painting or drawing. I observe nature, especially flowers , upclose, as if I were a part of the flower or leaves. I try to crawl , slowly walk among nature and become one with it. This requires intense concentration and submitting to a special mind set. Since I believe nature repeats itself over and over again in the universe I find the shapes become familiar as years go by, becoming family.
